Virginia Tech – Outcomes Assessment through ePortfolios

Overall, Virginia Tech as an institution is in the middle of active growth for using ePortfolios for outcome assessment. Some of our programs and departments have been using ePortfolios for more than four years to assess student outcomes, such as the Department of English and the Dietetics program within Human Nutrition Food and Exercise. Other programs are just beginning, at the pilot level, to define curriculum, outcome, and assessment processes, including how ePortfolios will fit into those plans – examples of these would be things like some of our First-Year Experiences, our Scieneering program (a new multidisciplinary minor incorporating Engineering, Science, and Law), and our SERVE Living Community. Each program has a different process, with different outcomes and different extents for use of ePortfolio-based evidence. The story below will detail a few of these.
