St. John’s University – Technology Story

As a result of research and development surrounding ePortfolios, the School of Education launched a pilot project in 2007-08 and adopted the venture for the Undergraduate Education Program in 2009. Originally when ePortfolios were just starting to be used at St. John’s University we utilized Taskstream. This tool was selected after reviewing comparable tools on the market at the time like Livetext, Digication and Sakai. With limited resources and a list of demands from administrator focused on assessment we made a good decision at that time. St. John’s University – Scaling Up Story

The ePortfolio movement is gaining momentum at St. John’s University.  Since our official switch to Digication in October 2011, we have completed the first phase of our plan which included rolling out ePortfolio accounts to a third of the university community and faculty/student development.  We are now preparing for Phase II that will increase the number of ePortfolio accounts issued to two-thirds of the population.  This phase will also provide continued faculty and student development workshops on-and off-line with ePortfolios. St. John’s University – Outcomes Assessment Story

Currently the School of Education’s Student Teacher Program is the only program that is using ePortfolio for Outcomes Assessment. When the university adopted the ePortfolio concept last year, it was the hope that in time we could use the system for TEAC and Middle States assessment, tenure, and common core.
